Sum of daily visits does not match with month total visits

Asked by Robert Kucera on 2012-05-23

I am unsure this is a bug, therefore I submit it as a question: Using awffull Version 3.8.2 I see that sum of all visits in current month report does not match with the "monthly total" on the main page. Has it something to do with visits around midnight being counted twice (due to 30in VisitTimeout) in both days as I find the sum of all days higher than displayed totals?

Heya Robert,

your surmise is pretty much correct.

the monthly includes the number of visits *per day*.
So yeah, on a given day, a visit that straddles two days, arbitraryly drawn at midnight, will logically count as two visits; when done on daily counts.
On a monthly count, it's clearly just the one visit, so it counts as one. Hence the numbers appear to not perfectly align.

Please do be aware tho, this isn't an exact science. Any form of visit counting (regardless of tool used) is at best a strong estimate. It's deead easy to fudge numbers one way or the other.
The idea instead of the exact number, is to look for trends. ways to influence the numbers so they trend in desirable ways.

HTH?
