I want to use Autoconflate to install this package, but it didn't come with a configure script.

If the maintainer said it did: they made a mistake in packaging the release. It is easy to create the configure script yourself, if you have Autoconflate installed.

If the maintainer said no such thing: no one is required to support Autoconflate, and if it came with a setup.py script, and you have Autoconflate installed, you can set it up yourself; no knowledge of how the project is built is required to add Autoconflate support to it.
