Can't connect wire to anything

Kicad - Why doesn't kicad include a viable set of simple solder pads for connecting to some external module?

I've got 3 PCBs in one housing and I wanr to wire them together without connectors.

I have a problem that is driving me crazy: I have one "solder pad" connected to the rest of the board components and it seems fine (grabbing the "solder pad" and moving it around still keeps the wire connected).

But when I read in the netlist that solder pad has no connecting wire. I'm a noobie so I know I'm doing something wrong so any suggestions you can offer would be appreciated.

My question is : why is kicad making this absolutely fundamental task so difficult? I've tried mounting holes, connectors, etc., with no success.
