A Gotcha when using audio-recorder

Asked by Joseph J. Pollock

This is probably not a bug at all, but might be worth mentioning in a FAQ or intro page.

I just started playing a 70 minute webcast. I also started audio-recorder. All fine so far.

Because I didn't want to listen to it now, I hit the mute button on my notebook. When I came back to it at the end, I found I had recorded 70 minutes of silence! I repeated the process without using the mute button and it worked fine.

The moral of the story is, "Don't use mute while recording!"

With most stream capture methods, it doen't matter if the speaker is on, etc., so it's worth mentioning this somewhere prominent.

Thanks for the great program.

BTW, if you ever run across or write one that will do video too, let us know. There are a lot of streams that are very hard to capture using Linux (RTMP ...) and being able to capture them as they are rendered would be great.
