Astrid won't talk to RTM on the Nexus One

Asked by Egypt Urnash

As the title says, Astrid isn't talking to Remember the Milk for me on my new Nexus One. I tell it to sync, there's a pause of a few seconds, and then a dialogue saying "Connection Error! Check your Internet connection & try again…" comes up.

I have the impression that what's *supposed* to happen is that my browser opens up a page on RTM, but this does not happen.

I believe the problem is with RTM right now. Check http://status.rememberthemilk.com/
They are showing API Temporarily Available

A Conspiracy Theory:

Anyone else think this is just a ploy by RTM to push users into spending $25 (PER YEAR!!!) for the "pro" version of RTM's own android app?

To me, that seems like a heinous amount to charge, considering the pricing norms on both iTunes and Android Market, and considering what you get for that price: an [admittedly well-made and full-featured] todo list with online backup.

The advertised 'benefits' of upgrading to pro are flimsy at best. "Priority support via email" is insultingly vague, not to mention that I would expect little or no need for support when paying $25—per year—for rather basic and straightforward end-user functionality. And the "new features" listed are merely the previously-free device-specific widgets and apps. Give me a break. Any "warm fuzzy" feelings I may have enjoyed from supporting a creative independent developer would be overcome by about $15 after the first year.

Charge me $10 (maybe even $15-25) ONCE or I'll get my warm fuzzy feelings elsewhere.

My current todo list:
1. Find a more affordable todo list

It figures RTM would go down the *day* I decided to blitz through to-do apps on my new phone! I'll see what happens when they put their API back up.

Phil, running a site is expensive once it gets popular. If RTM is an important part of your life you probably *should* consider paying, to make sure it sticks around for a while; bandwidth and hosting ain't free...
