Notifications - Alarms

Asked by jaamgans

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong - if this is a bug - or if this is an enhancement. Unfortunately the provided guide, just doesn't really cover this in detail, and doesn't show all the options available (it probably needs a bit of updating as I see its from February).

I can get the alarms/notifications to work great most of the time (sometimes they just don't seem to work)- however I would have thought that these should adhere to ringer/alarm options available just like the e-mail does. I.E I set Astrid's general settings to notify me, set vibration, set ringer option, set notification icon option (would be good to have an LCD option too) and ensure persistent is off (assume this ignores quite time and any ringer/alarm conditions set) and depending on condition of alarm/ringer level in sound settings I would expect the software to act accordingly:

If alarm/ringer level is set to sound - I would expect notification in bar, would expect phone to vibrate and ringer to sound with chosen ringtone (would be great if LCD flashes in chosen colour too). This normally works well.

If alarm/ringer level set to quiet and vibrate only (i.e. at work or in a meeting and don't want to disturb everyone) - I would expect notification in bar, and would expect phone to vibrate. It shouldn't be making a noise too! Very annoying when it does this.

If alarm/ringer level set to quiet and vibration off (i.e. don't even want vibration noise to disturb) - I would expect notification in bar, phone shouldn't vibrate and phone shouldn't ring either (note this is where the lcd would be useful to advise you something has come up - you can then decide whether to check or not). Its extremely annoying when Astrid does this!!! And makes the use of this application very debateable.

How are my task set up - the same way for each:
Ignoring Basic tab as I don't think anything here affects notification/ring/vibrate - please correct me if I am wrong.
Dates tab:
Always use Goal Deadline or Absolute Deadline (does this make a difference to the alarm settings?)
Mostly use repeat option (occasionally use Calendar - would this make a difference?)
Alerts tab: assuming this is where the real problem lies -
I don't use periodic reminders - pointless.
I always use Fixed reminders - usually same time as deadline or before deadline.
Notify me: I have the following ticked.
At Deadlines
Alarm Clock Mode (what does this do - nothing in the guide to suggest what it does, but assuming this should mean that Astrid will follow ringer/sound settnigs?)

Please can you tell me how to set up my tasks so that when my notification comes due, it keeps quiet if my sound is off i.e. have vibrate only on;
and if I have totally silent on, it will ignore the vibrate setting I have ticked.

PS - I have checked my sound option - when at vibrate and quiet only in line call has any sound on it, the rest are set to zero.

Looking forward to your solution / updated guide.

Regards
Jamie.

I think that this might be due to the alarm mode check - It seems to work much more like I would expect it to work when I untick this option.

Numerous searchs on this issue seems to show that this might be the main problem - pity about the guide having nothing about this option, plus I don't think that it has the correct name yet, even after its been changed. Its name doesn't match the description of what it does.

A better option might be - "Ignore Phone States"; "Ignore Silent"

Can you help with this problem?
