How to install Openoffice from Ubuntu 8.0 CD?

Asked by Avinash.Rao on 2008-07-19

Hi,

I have a machine installed with Ubuntu Studio 8.0 and i have done a complete install. I would like to install Openoffice and other applications from the Ubuntu 8.0 Hardy OS CD? Is this possible using aptoncd? Coz, i installed aptoncd on a Studio machine, which has all the applications installed using add/remove programs option, apt-get and aptitude. But, when i load the packages in aptoncd, the openoffice application is greyed out.

I tried the other way round also, i inserted the Ubuntu 8.0 OS CD on a newly installed Ubuntu Studio machine, executed aptoncd and added this cdrom and used the restore option and the media was CD, but it didn't load any packages.

Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks
Avinash

can you verified that there is no OpenOffice.org pre-installed by default?

you can click the menu Applications > Office > OpenOffice.org Word Processor to verify it.

Ok, if you wanna create APTonCD to just install openoffice.org, you can do it by:

1. download all the packages needed to install openoffice.org
If you have no idea on which packages to download, go to http://labs.fajran.web.id/p/apt-web/index.php
Select Ubuntu Hardy and type in "openoffice.org" then submit

2. Place all the deb files in one directory
3. Launch you APTonCD software
4. Click on Create
5. Deselect All packages (Click on Edit > Deselect All)
6. Click add and select all the deb files from that directory
7. burn it.

Muhammad,

I know how to do this, but the question was how to install openoffice from Ubuntu 8.04-Hardy CD instead of downloading it.

Thanks
Avinash

You should read http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/804

It is obviously stated that the openoffice suite is not included in the CD due to disk space reason.

I'm giving you the APTonCD answer because this is an APTonCD question. so, answers for your questions:

Q: I would like to install Openoffice and other applications from the Ubuntu 8.0 Hardy OS CD? Is this possible using aptoncd?

A: Yes, it is possible to use APTonCD but not from Ubuntu Hardy CD.

Q: Coz, i installed aptoncd on a Studio machine, which has all the applications installed using add/remove programs option, apt-get and aptitude. But, when i load the packages in aptoncd, the openoffice application is greyed out.

A: That possibly happen because you don't have the openoffice suite package (.deb files) in your PC or CD.

Q: I tried the other way round also, i inserted the Ubuntu 8.0 OS CD on a newly installed Ubuntu Studio machine, executed aptoncd and added this cdrom and used the restore option and the media was CD, but it didn't load any packages.

A: It won't automatically load the packages from your Ubuntu CD, instead you have to add it using Add button and search for the .deb files in your Ubuntu Hardy CD. And if you are searching for Open Office, you won't find it there.

Can you help with this problem?
