1. Support for Ubuntu 12.04 has ended several years ago (April 2017, even the paid support extension has ended in April 2019).

2. Ubuntu uses a concept where nobody needs to know the password for root.
If you want to execute an administrative task, then you have to provide your own user's password when asked for it.

What are you doing that you think that you need an "admin password on my ubuntu"?

For diagnostic purposes please proceed as follows:

Open a terminal window (e.g. by simultaneously pressing ctrl-alt-t)
issue the following commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
id
sudo id

at the last command you will be asked to enter your own password. Please be aware that you will not get any feedback for the password (no echo, not even '*' placeholders). Just "blind" type your password and press the enter key.

Finally copy all output and paste it into this question document that we can check.

In case that you do not know your own password, please tell us, that we can give instructions how to set a new one.
