The security concept of Ubuntu uses a feature to prevent unauthorized system modifications.
When you initiate an administrative action, your are asked to provide your password as confirmation.
(Note: If you are entering your password in a terminal window as the response to such request, then there is no feedback shown on screen, no echo, not even '*' placeholders.)

I assume that you know your password, don't you?

In case that you do not know your own password any more, and if there is no other user with administrative authorizations available to reset your password, then you can use the procedure for setting a new password described in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

Can you help with this problem?
