Are you sure that you know your password?
Does your password work for logging in?

What command do you try, that does not work?
What response do you get when you try that command?

What is the output of the following commands (to be executed in a terminal window)

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo id

(For the last command please note that there will be a request to enter your password, and when you type it in, you will not get any feedback - no echo, not even '*' placeholders.)
