im trying to install vlc media player but i dont know what is my authentication code and password for root is always appearing what is my password for root?

i want to download movies and mp3 players also i want to have an skype and tango applications but my downloading actions is un succesfull i want to enable my authentication password. i forgot my ubuntu personal password, authentication password and password for root?
