what is the password of this desktop?

I'd like to use apt-daemon to do the equivalent of

apt-get install fubar --download-only

Is there a way to achieve this?

Sorry to say, but the option is not available to the user. But it would make sense to add a command line option and a DBus API.

You could use cron to do what you desire
