Why???

Asked by Niklas Sombert on 2012-03-10

Why did you do that? There's PackageKit. It can't run debconf. Hmm. Why don't you improve that?
Why did you made your own thing? Why?!

I pushed packagekit some years ago and even wrote large parts of the apt backend. back in those times debconf support was denied by policy of the packagekit project. also the interactive terminal.

Today I tried it.
Debconf in PackageKit works for me without problems (I used pkcon.).

I am aware of the PackageKit development since I still make contributions to the project. You are free to use PackageKit instead.

The main benefit of PackageKit is the Dbus API which is now also supported by aptdaemon.
