Kate, Kwrite and Treeline uninstallable

I have tried to install Kate and its sibling Kwrite as well as Treeline. " The dependencies cannot be met" is the error message. I then installed Synaptic and it informed me that the some packages that Kate depended on were broken. Can this be remedied?
