Why are apps so old?

I'm a bit concerned about the age of the apps in the AppCenter. Evolution is still at 3.4.x; current version is at least 3.12.x. And Geary? Yikes, 1.4.x when they've reached 1.8.x. This can be crippling. Is there some repository I can add to get a more up to date listing of apps? Thanks.

well I agree for some apps, for example I can't upgrade geary (the mail app I love) to the last version : i have the version 0.8.3 and the last version in yorba PPA or even in daily yorba PPA is version 0.10.0... it seems that I can't upgrade even with the ppa
