How do I change the output device from internal audio to USB soundcard?

Asked by Alex Hawdon

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) with native Amarok version and I'm having trouble changing the output device to my USB soundcard.

I've configured the system (just GNOME, I'm guessing) using Sound Preferences so that Sound Events and Music and Movies will be routed through the USB soundcard and verified everything's working: both using the 'Test' feature in Sound Preferences and by doing a mouse-over on my MP3 files in Nautilus file manager which results in the preview being played through the USB soundcard.

However, I am unable to get Amarok to play through this device - please help!

Regards,

Alex

Problem solved!

I changed the output plugin from Autodetect to ALSA then used 'aplay -L' to find a list of the audio output devices that ALSA sees and configured the Stero ALSA output in Amarok to use the appropriate one.
