How do I read and store CD Informaiton

Asked by Mark Hunter

Hello: I am new to this and have been looking for a CD Cataloging software. Someone recommended Amarok.

I looked at the features, and I liked that, but how do I store the CD Information into the database? Do I need to make every song a part of a playlist?

Also, I am using Ubuntu, and when I tried to look at the Manual, it gave me an error. Is that becuase I am using a Gnome desktop? Is there a way around that?

I would like to add my entire CD Collection into this database, around 1000 CDs.

Amarok is not really designed to catalogue your CDs. It does currently not see CDs as part of your collection.
You will have to save the songs to your harddrive for example.
Then tell Amarok where your music files are, let it index it and use Amarok to listen to your music, search for songs, let it organize your music files and whatever else you wish to do.

Thank you Lydia for your quick reply. I have been searching for a CD collection manager for Linux and have not found one yet.

Are you aware of any?

I am working on getting off of Windows, but I have my CD Collection all catalogued there. I use CDTrustee and Collectrz.com software on Windows for that. Any suggestions for Linux?

Thanks...

You are welcome.

I don't use any software like that myself but maybe these links are helpful for you:
