Can I see my ipod with amarok

Asked by Jerry Haukedal

I am using Ubuntu on a Mac G3 with Firewire. I can connect my iPod to the Mac through the Firewire port. How do I get my Amarok to see my iPod?

Can you actually _mount_ the iPod? ... so you can access it's data via your file manager?

I'm a real noob when it comes to using the Linux operating system so please bear with me.

No I can't _mount_ the iPod. I have poked around the operating system but can't find anything that would mount the iPod.

Well, I got no iPod to try what I'm telling you, so I think we are even ;-)

Anyway, there is this small possibility that ubuntu has no driver for your Firewire chip, which usually means that you can only use USB after all.
But if your iPod first was initialized with iTunes on MacOS it probably got the Mac Filesystem HFS+, I'm not exactly sure whether this is support in the default ubuntu setup, so you might want to check whether "hfsplus" is installed (you can check this in what ever package manger your using - synaptic on ubuntu or adept on kubuntu). If it is installed and your system doesn't popup a window saying that it found an iPod and asks you what to do with it, it's very likely that your Firewire chip really got no driver. If it does, Amarok also should also start shouting and offer you a quick setup popup where you can configure the device as iPod and you should be ready to go.

Can you help with this problem?
