Surround support for C-Media CMI9761A

Asked by ignoble

I really tried a lot of things to get surround sound for my C-Media CMI9761A. Now I think that it's not possible. Is there anyone who has got the same sound device with working surround sound?

You'll find my sound configuration here: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=24539206be2239bf5ec5e56a8eb860f1a461cbc8

I added a link to a bug which is about surround problems although the symptoms are not the same. My problem is: I don't get any output from center, subwoofer and rear speakers. So the only option for me is to go for stereo although my hardware supports 5.1 surround (it worked under windows).

I've got this in my user.log

Jan 10 11:24:58 bs-desktop pulseaudio[2258]: alsa-mixer.c: Your kernel driver is broken: it reports a volume range from 18,00 dB to 18,00 dB which makes no sense.
Jan 10 11:24:59 bs-desktop pulseaudio[2258]: last message repeated 6 times
Jan 10 11:24:59 bs-desktop pulseaudio[2258]: module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working profile.
Jan 10 11:24:59 bs-desktop pulseaudio[2258]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="1" name="1" card_name="alsa_card.1" tsched=yes ignore_dB=no card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""): initialization failed.

Could that explain the problem?
