ALSA driver

How does one write an usb audio driver?

Is there any documentation how to write an audio usb driver? Is it enough to write a alsa driver or does the kernel need another one? How are isochronous endpoints synced in the usb device?

Obviously the usb-audio is one big module - instead of a module for every chipset...
