How does alarm-clock determine which soundcard to use?

Asked by carpeliam

Alarm Clock doesn't seem to be using either my ALSA settings or my PulseAudio settings. Aplay and Rhythmbox etc play sound just fine, but alarm-clock does not. My sound preferences are set to use ALSA.

Alarm Clock uses GStreamer to play sound, so it plays it just exactly as Rhythmbox or Totem. It is GStreamer that decides which sound card to use. If you are using PulseAudio, you should see Alarm Clock when it plays a sound, just right-click on it and switch to another sound card.

Can you help with this problem?
