Alarm clock DBus traffic

Asked by Luc Pi on 2013-05-06

When running 'dbus-monitor', we can see such output about every second,

signal sender=:1.48 -> dest=(null destination) serial=33450 path=/org/ayatana/NotificationItem/alarm_clock; interface=org.kde.StatusNotifierItem; member=XAyatanaNewLabel
   string ""
   string ""

what are they?

The dbus traffic is related to the application indicator support. In particular, the app indicator label is updated every second to show the remaining time of the next upcoming alarm.

Amusingly the label is updated every second even though there are no alarms activated, so you'll see this dbus traffic whenever Alarm Clock is running in the background. Feel free to file a bug to improve this code such that the label is only updated when absolutely necessary!
