What does "show countdown label" in the preference mean?

I did not check the box of "show countdown label", but all the alarm clocks are counting down.

It means a countdown will be shown in the panel next to the Alarm Clock icon. This only works if you're using App Indicators, e.g. with Ubuntu Classic / Unity.
