No notification area icon when I compile from source

Asked by Matt Parlette on 2012-03-12

I have created a branch in hopes to add some quick links to start alarms in the notification area menu. However, when I retrieve the trunk, compile it, and run alarm-clock, there is no notification area icon.

When I run the configure script, I don't see any errors that would cause this, but I do see at the very end I see this:
application indicators: no

Maybe this is the problem, but I'm not sure how to resolve it. Can anyone give me a hand to get the indicator icon to show for my own compiled version?

Hi Matt,

You need the libappindicator-dev package:

sudo apt-get install libappindicator-dev

Best regards,
Johannes
