I am on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

You can open the Dash (Super key)
  either type some file names
or browse (making usage of the mouse)
->The files (or applications or videos or ...) that you accessed 'recently 'are displayed (if displaying is allowed).

You can open the 'file manager' (Nautilus)
On the left you can click on Recent.
->A list of 'recent' files is displayed.

The Gnome Activity Journal was a possibility to get a journal. It was removed from 18.04 LTS.

Can you help with this problem?
