Monero Package Outdated

Latest version of Monero in "monero" package is 0.17.2.0. The community has been on v0.18 since July 2020. The v0.17 -> v0.18 change was a hardfork change, which means that the "monero" package has been unusable for over a year.

I would be more than happy to help get this package updated to the current release v0.18.3.1, as I am currently funded to develop for the upstream project. Proof of community funding: https://ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/jeffro256-part-time-2022-q3.html and https://ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/jeffro256-full-time-2023Q3.html. My Github handle is @jeffro256 and my email is <email address hidden>. The current release v0.18.3.1 binaries can be downloaded at https://web.getmonero.org/downloads/ and the SHA256 sums can be verified at the repository https://github.com/monero-project/gitian.sigs/. If the package currently provided in an Ubuntu release is "unusable", then please create a bug report with the details.

If you want to provide the newest version of monero for older Ubuntu releases, then the best way is creating a PPA with your own package.

I created a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monero/+bug/2039885.

I got no response. The monero version is behind on newer versions of Ubuntu too (23.04 for me), not just older versions of monero. If the package will not be updated, it needs to be dropped entirely since it is worse than useless in its current form. Is there anything I could do to expedite this process?

If you look at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monero you can see that Ubuntu noble (24.04 LTS, to be published in April) will already have monero version 0.18.3.1

For your bug report: If you find another person who is affected, that person can set the status of the bug report from "new" to "confirmed" (by clicking the "affects me" icon"). It may get more attention then.

And there is still the option to create a PPA yourself.

Can you help with this problem?
