iperf3 release is now 3.11, what is the process to make that the default package as opposed to 3.7?

Asked by Peter

Dear Sir/Madam

iperf3 is at version 3.11 but when 'sudo apt install iperf3' is entered, the current version is 3.7. Would it be possible to make v3.11 the default? It would be great because there are many bug fixes in there.

Best Regards
Peter.

Additionally you have to take into account that Ubuntu is copying packages from Debian (to avoid double packaging work), and also Debian has only versions up to 3.9
First step for bringing an updated version into Ubuntu's development release is that Debian upgrade their version.

There are some PPAs with higher versions than the one that is provided for focal in the official Ubuntu repositories.
You might consider using one of them, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=iperf3 for a list of potential candidates.

iperf3 packaging is currently on 3.9.1 for Ubuntu and Debian.
For 22.04 Jammy
https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/iperf3

For 20.04 the current package is 3.7-3
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/iperf3

Ubuntu is derived from Debian. When Debian releases
a new package then Ubuntu changes their package.

You could make a bug report for package consideration. to Debian.
