When will "casper toram forgets to disconnect loop device" bug be fixed?

Asked by scmarko

This question is about the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/684280

When should this get fixed? So far I have had to modify Ubuntu based ISO installations manually to get this working, but it involves a lot of unnecessary work and takes hours to do.

If this gets fixed, then it would allow me to start Ubuntu based installations directly from the hard drive by loading the ISO into RAM. Currently if I start an Ubuntu based installation from the hard drive from ISO file, the live installation starts correctly, but I can't erase or install new version of Ubuntu on the hard drive where it was started from.

Starting Ubuntu based installations from USB sticks or CD-ROMs is always not an option, so please do not recommend that. I need to be able to start Ubuntu installations on remote locations where USBs or CD-ROMs are not available.

Adding this fix to Ubuntu would be a small thing but it would save a lot of time from people later on.

Open terminal [ctl+alt+t]:
lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | grep ' linux-i'

Paste output here for diagnostic purposes.
