While upgrading ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 . Upgradation aborted ,showing dpkg error

Package mysql-common is not configured yet.

Does the file exist? If not then you can use the 'touch' command to make it,then retry.

It may be easier to just wipe the ancient install off, do a clean install of 24.04 then restore your user data from your backups. The release is out soon and you will upgrade to the release candidate seamlessly. 24.04 is LTS and supported until April 2029

For diagnostic purposes, what output do you now receive for the commands

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo dpkg --audit
sudo dpkg --configure -a
