Calendar-view of SchoolTool

Asked by tamoc

Hi @all,

at the moment I try to configure schooltool 2.8 on ubuntu 14.04 (local test-installation) for our small institute for children with dyslexia. It's a bit complicated for me, because I never configured a databased software before :-) But I want to learn.

Now, after I created years, courses, teachers, pupils and timetables, I try to get an overview about all the sections I applied. But in the calendar-view I cannot see the sections. I checked in the box "school calendar" and choosed all locations, where the sections are placed, but the whole week is empty.

What I made wrong? How could I see a timetable-overview for the whole school respectively for individual locations in the calendar-view?

I hope for a short helpful answer. Thank you a lot for your great work in developing schooltool.

With kind regards
fhs

Hi Tamoc,

The shared calendar functionality may just be incomplete. It has not gotten much use in years. If you go to a section, and click on Calendar in the left sidebar, can you see any sections? Have you assigned each section to periods using the Schedule link?

Hi Mr. Hoffman,

thanks a lot for your kind reply.

Yes I scheduled all sections. I can see all sections, where I'm assigned as teacher by myself. That works fine but the administration board of our institute needs to get an overview about all sections, classes and teachers in a week. But this don't work. The calendar keeps empty.

I've thougt a timetable overview is essentially for every school or institute. It's the heart of organizing lessons, rooms and classes. I can't believe that it won't work in schooltool. Please tell me, that I didn't understood you right and there is a possibility (maybe a workaround?) to see all sections in the calendar for clerks and administrators. Please - otherwise I did a lot of work to no purpose :-/

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Kind regards

tamoc

Hi Mr. Hoffman,

last hours I went deeper in schooltool-testing. Do I understand right, that

* in the school-calendar only events will displayed?
* in the location-Calendars only events will displayed?
* events are never sections nor a section can assigned to an event?
* sections will be displayed only in personal calenders, neither in group nor in school nor in ressource-calenders?
* such a feature like a rolebased timetable-calendar-overview for administrators, clerks, teachers or pupils to see and plan school-tool-sections (e.g. per drag and drop) isn't planned for upcoming releases of schooltool (perhaps 3.0)?

I love the idea behind the whole schooltool-project and the concept of a role-based SIS. I'd like to give it a chance. But I have to decide, if it is worth to spend more time testing schooltool. And without a working timetable-overview for the whole school my superiors won't use this pretty piece of software :-/

For this reason it would be very glad, you could answer my questions finally.

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Kind regards

tamoc

P.S.: Please excuse my poor english.

Hi Tamoc,

To be honest, the calendaring features you are concerned with have barely been touched in almost 10 years and have not been a priority to schools currently using SchoolTool, and thus to us for that reason. We know there are some bugs there and, unfortunately, fixing them is not a high priority.

So, it doesn't look like SchoolTool is going to be a good fit for you.

Thanks for your interest.
