Installation requirements for Mac OS X

Asked by verylisa

I have just tried installing the KnitML package on my iMac, running Mac OS X Version 10.5.7.

It looks to me like it runs straight out of the box without any need to download Java or configure Java options. I'm not much of a geek so I'm not really sure, but my geek partner tells me that Java support is embedded in the Mac OS so most Java apps work straight away. Apparently there isn't really any 'root directory of the Java installation' as mentioned in the Installation section of the KnitML User Guide.

This isn't really a question -- just a bit of Mac-relevant feedback.

Do you want more feedback (if I have any) via this Launchpad channel, or would another channel be better?

Yes, you are correct. Recent versions of Mac OS X (I believe 10.5 onward) come with Java already, so you don't have to do anything about installing Java.

Are you running the command-line tools, or are you running the graphical tool? The User's Guide was originally written for the command-line tools, so some of those directions don't apply there. That does need to be updated, no question about it.

And this is fine for comments. If there truly are bugs that come out of the questions, I can submit the bugs to the bug tracker on your behalf. The interface is a little bit cumbersome.
